ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Every fall of the year, one of the popular sporting events in Lilliland was a marathon. The marathon runners would travel a fourteen-mile track around Lilliland, some of it into some wooded areas.

The marathon had to be suspended for the previous few years because runners were being kidnapped. One runner was kidnapped and held for ransom. The ransom was paid and the kidnappers released the frightened runner.

The marathon was again scheduled with a few additions; some security guards would be dressed like typical runners. They would be like decoys to trap the kidnappers if they tried anything.

Participants could enter the race and the runner was permitted to let his dog run along side him providing it did not interfere with the other runners.

The day of the race came and the marathon started off very well. One of the runners had his dog, Wilfred, who ran along side his master. Wilfred’s master was not a very fast runner. In fact, he was sometimes the last of the pack. But that was all right because everyone was there to have a good time.

The area where the kidnappers liked to do their wicked kidnapping deed was well into the woods where people could not be watched very closely.

And then, the kidnappers struck. They grabbed Wilfred’s master and began to force him into a large burlap bag. They had a car nearby to haul the victim away.

The kidnappers did not see Wilfred, but Wilfred saw the kidnappers and growled very loudly at them, then attacked the person who was pushing his master into the burlap bag. Wilfred barked loudly and the security heard the cries for help. The security men were quick to arrive and arrest the kidnappers.

The two criminals were brought to justice and they admitted to committing all of the marathon runner kidnapping crimes.

A reward had been offered to anyone who helped solve the case.

Wilfred’s master accepted the reward, but said the real hero of the day was Wilfred and that the reward would go to Wilfred.
