irplane Lost Over Lilliland
|
aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.
Lilliland was centrally located in the Alpine Mountains where tourists would visit on their ski holiday. The tall mountain ranges made it ideal for skiers to run the different trails depending on their skills. Ski lifts made the trip up the side of the mountain very easy and enjoyable.
As of late, there was a route by airplane from Paris to Rome put on the regular schedule. Baron Von Lodge wished that Lilliland had an airport to accommodate airplanes transporting vacationers and tourists. But the mountains were too high for the pilots to fly low enough to land at a mountain airport. Tourists would have to fly to Switzerland and take a coach or train over to Lilliland.
One day the Lilliland security police received an urgent message that there was an emergency. One of the planes from Rome to Paris was overdue and presumed crashed in the Alpine Mountains. The Baron immediately began a full search of all the areas in the Alpine Mountains that he could. The plane would have to be found quickly so that none of the passengers would freeze to death, or if there were injured, they could be taken to the Lilliland Hospital right away.
Baron Von Lodge had a small landing field for his airplane, Silver Bird, an old World War I Spad 13. He took off and circled the mountain range and found the lost airplane. The Baron directed the search patrol to the location and found everyone alive. The wounded passengers were sent to the hospital and the others were given hotel rooms until they could contact their families and resume their trip. The Baron felt good about being able to fly the Silver Bird in a rescue mission.
