oothsayer Predicts Royalty Doomed

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

It was reported to Professor Hamblin, the Baron’s chief advisor, that another person was walking around the town center carrying a sign predicting the end of the royal family in Lilliland. When the Professor discussed this with the Baron, he added that this was not the first time and probably not the last time. They both decided that there was nothing that they could do. Every citizen had a right to express his point of view.

Lady Angela of Alpine Castle was asked about her opinion on the soothsayer and she said that she felt there was nothing to do and sometimes when an action was taken, it made matters worse.

The Professor said that this might be a good time to discuss the future of the Lilliland monarchy anyway.

“The reason that so many monarchies fell was because they had only two classes, the royals and the peasants. The peasants were made to feel that their position was hopeless and the royals rubbed it in at every occasion. There was no middle class and no hope for upward class mobility.

“Meeting the needs of a large middle class seemed to insure the survival of the monarchy. Programs of help should always be in place for the lower class so that they do not go without food and health care. The royals must learn humility rather than scorn for others.

“If there is a basic sharing and caring among all the classes, then the monarchy will survive in future years.

“If a monarchy declares war on the monarchs of other countries who happen to be their relatives and expect the lower class to fight the battles and die for their superficial causes, then they are not doing a very good job. All classes should be given an opportunity to live a long life and not be asked to give up their lives for some obscure or selfish reason. Loyalty is fine, but not at an unreasonable cost.

“The sovereignty of other nations must be respected.

“The soothsayer may be doing us a favor if it keeps us on our toes about the concerns of the average person in Lilliland.”

The Professor suggested that the Baron order the police in the town center not to bother the soothsayer and not treat him with any scorn. “Hopefully, he will realize on his own, that Lilliland is a nice place to carry any sign and enjoy life.”
