illiland Celebrates New Years Eve
|
ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
The Baron often told visitors to Lilliland that the people celebrated in two ways. First, the tourists who stayed in hotels celebrated New Years Eve in the universal way, and that was dinner, parties, dancing, funny hats, and balloons. It was a lot of fun for all guests.
The citizens of Lilliland celebrated New Years Eve in a more subdued manner. They gathered the family around the table with light refreshments and non-alcoholic beverages, usually apple cider. They then took turns going around the table telling about the best things that happened to them the past year. They expressed thankfulness that they were all together as a family.
The Baron had a quiet evening with his fiancée in the great hall of Lilliland Castle. A warm fire was glowing, some soft music was playing and a candlelit supper of cheese and apple cider. They spoke of their love for each other and the tings that they enjoyed doing together the past year.
It was also a custom to take the breadcrumbs from the table and put them outside in the snow for the birds and other animals that might be looking for food.
The quietness of the typical household in Lilliland, compared to the celebrating noises of the tourists in the hotels was an interesting contrast.
One could not fault the tourists for if that was that they wanted to do to bring in the New Year, then that was what they should be doing.
The important thing was that everyone wished the best of everything as the year came to a close.
The following morning, New Years Day, everyone came out to see a parade in the center of Lilliland. The parade celebrated the joys of the New Year.
The Baron asked his chief advisor, Professor Hamblin, what he did to celebrate New Years Eve, to which the Professor replied he stayed at home and read a good book. Then it was early to bed, as usual.
