veryone Can Sing

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, because of her wealth, could easily afford to sponsor several pet projects for Lilliland. One of her favorite projects was based on the belief that everyone could sing and appreciate music.

To this end, Lady Angela offered free singing lessons to anyone who was a resident of Lilliland, and of any age. All they had to do was come to the central park the first Sunday afternoon of each month at 2 p.m. There a paid professional singing teacher would help them learn to sing. The students could either provide their own sheet music or it would be provided for them.

Some young men who had difficulty courting a pretty girl, would come for singing lessons in order to win the heart of their young ladies.

While that was a difficult task for the singing teacher to achieve, it did make things very interesting.

The singing teacher that Lady Angela employed also believed that everyone could learn to sing. In some cases, if the student was tone deaf, he could learn to talk a song. In that way, he was talking the words and yet doing it in a way that made it seem they were actually singing.

Singing was something a person could do when alone or with a group at parties, or just about anywhere. Sometimes neighbors had covered dish suppers and required that everyone not only bring their specialty dish but also to be prepared to sing for their supper.

Lady Angela liked when the Baron tried to sing to her, but she had to hold back the tendency to laugh at his efforts. After all, he was the leader of Lilliland and she did not want to hurt his feelings while he was trying to sing along with her.

Professor Hamblin had his own quartet of men over sixty that got together and sang old favorites. They seemed to enjoy the times they had together and tried to keep everything light. If someone was temporarily out of tune that day, it was still okay for him to sing along with the rest of the group.

Lady Angela often asked the people who were applying for a job at Alpine Castle if they could sing. She enjoyed hearing people singing as they went about their daily chores and it made the rest of the staff cheerful and more efficient.
