r. Whiskers' Visit
|
ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
Lady Angela of Alpine Castle lived just a few minutes’ walk away from the Baron’s Lilliland Castle. It was a very convenient and enjoyable arrangement.
One day, Lady Angela received a message from her dear friend Lady Barbara asking for a small favor. Mr. Whiskers, her cat, needed a place to stay while she would be away for two weeks. The person that Mr. Whiskers usually stayed with was not available at this time. The message said that all Mr. Whiskers needed was a box next to the fireplace to keep warm and that he would be no trouble.
Mr. Whiskers arrived and the visit began. Mr. Whiskers stayed in his box by the fireplace for the first few days but then became interested in Lady Angela. Mr. Whiskers soon left the box in favor of following Lady Angela all around Alpine Castle.
Mr. Whiskers followed Lady Angela into her sitting room, then, at night, Mr. Whiskers slept next to Lady Angela in her bed all night. When Lady Angela took long leisurely tub baths, Mr. Whiskers would push open the door to the keep Lady Angela company.
Lady Angela loved cats and took all of this friendliness in stride. But when she felt that she was losing some of her personal privacy, she decided to discuss the situation with the Baron.
Late one afternoon Lady Angela slipped out of the side door and walked over to the Baron’s castle. Half way there Lady Angela looked around and saw Mr. Whiskers trying to keep up with her.
The Baron said, “Since the two week stay is almost over, why not just stick it out for the remaining few days?”
But the next day a message from Lady Barbara indicated that she would have to stay on for an indefinite period and that Mr. Whiskers would have to be put up for adoption. Lady Barbara asked if Lady Angela would ask around about finding a good home for Mr. Whiskers.
By this time the fondness by Lady Angela for Mr. Whiskers, and the fondness of Mr. Whiskers for Lady Angela had grown and so it was relatively easy for Lady Angela to send a reply to Lady Barbara that Mr. Whiskers had a new home with her at Alpine Castle.
