isitor Babe Ruth

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

The last time the Baron and Lady Angela visited Scotland was to play some golf and later assist in golf’s introduction to Lilliland. While visiting Scotland and staying with a cousin, he mentioned that the next time he visited Lilliland he would bring along a friend from the United States. The cousin was an avid sportsman and so the Baron’s guess was that his friend would also be a sportsman. The cousin kept the name of the guest a secret except to say he played baseball.

The Baron had seen a few baseball games during his last visit to the United States and he saw why baseball was a favorite past time. It seemed that everyone in the United States was a fan of a baseball team.

When the Baron and Lady Angela returned to Lilliland, the Baron received a note from his cousin that said he would be arriving with his friend from the United States in three weeks.

The Baron set aside a part of the public park to lay out a baseball diamond and asked the recreational staff to mention to the young people that they would be meeting a baseball player from the United States. Baseball supplies were purchased so that there were enough bats, balls and gloves ready for the visitor.

Sure enough the big day came. It was Babe Ruth from the New York Yankees baseball team. The Babe stayed in Lilliland Castle with his cousin and seemed to enjoy himself.

The Baron asked if he would be interested in talking to some of the young people of Lilliland about the game of baseball and show them some of the pointers of the game. The cousin had told the Baron that back in the U.S. the Babe would meet with young people to talk about the game of baseball.

The young people had a very good time and it was obvious to everyone that the Babe really enjoyed himself too.

After the Babe left, the game of baseball caught on very quickly. The Baron often credited Babe Ruth with bringing the sport of baseball to Lilliland.

When the Babe became the homerun king for the Yankees, everyone in Lilliland celebrated the event.
