uggestion Box

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, at the regular meeting with Professor Hamblin and the Baron, brought up the subject that communications with the citizens of Lilliland were rather difficult. Did a citizen write a letter or tell the suggestion to some official, or what? Sometimes letters would be misdirected to the wrong department or lost.
Lady Angela thought that a type of mailbox could be placed in the center of Lilliland’s town mall. It would simply be known as a Suggestion Box. Any citizen could make a suggestion and if the writer chose not to be known, that would be fine.
The Baron ordered a suggestion box be built and erected in the mall area for everyone to see and use if they so chose. The Professor would have a representative of his office bring the notes and suggestions directly to his attention. He would then discuss them with the Baron and Lady Angela.
During the first week the box remained empty with no suggestions. Then the second week there was found a note, but it was only a scrap of paper. “I believe that someone thought it was a waste paper box,” said the Professor.
Finally, one note was received. The suggestion was about Lilliland Lake. “If vacationers want a place to go swimming in the lake, they have to jump off a dock. Why not have a sandy beach so that the bathers can enter and leave the lake more comfortably.” The note was well received and the Baron ordered that a beach for bathers be developed. “That was a good suggestion,” the Baron thought.
Lady Angela liked the idea that the beach was something everyone could use. Later picnic tables were added for people who wanted to have a lunch and be comfortable. A lifeguard was hired to make certain that boats stayed out of the way of swimmers and that the swimmers were safe at all times.
One interesting feature about the beach turned out to be a favorite place for vacationers to take photographs.
Many fine relationships developed when people first met at the beach.
