ady Angela's Surgery

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Lady Angela of Alpine Castle was engaged to the Baron for some time and their wedding plans were scheduled for some future date. There was no immediacy to the plans. It was just a certainty for the future.

One day the Baron noticed that Lady Angela was not looking very well and she had cut back on her favorite activities. She rarely went horseback riding or sailing anymore. She felt that hiking in the Alpine Mountains was becoming too strenuous.

The Baron suggested that her family physician talk with her and examine her to see what might be wrong, if anything.

The physician’s findings were of concern and he suggested that Lady Angela be admitted to a hospital in Switzerland for additional tests.

Surgery was the diagnosis and the condition was corrected. A follow-up period in the hospital was needed to make sure that there were no further complications.

Then a strange thing happened. The Baron received a note from Lady Angela stating that she was much better but did not want him to visit her anymore. She also returned his engagement ring and said that she was no longer qualified to be the Baroness of Lilliland.

The Baron asked his chief advisor, Professor Hamblin, to look into the problem that this news created. Professor Hamblin went to the hospital in Switzerland and consulted with the surgeon. The surgeon said that Lady Angela was much better but the surgery meant that she could not conceive any children.

When the Baron received the news, he immediately went to the hospital and brought Lady Angela home. “Whether you can have children or not does not affect my love for you in any way. You are a friend, companion, lover and you are not necessarily a biological procreation entity. I deeply love you and the life we share together.”

Their engagement was immediately resumed.
