astle Lake or Lilliland Lake?
|
ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
Sometimes the large lake in Lilliland was known as Castle and sometimes it was called Lilliland Lake. People often asked which was the official name of the lake?
The Baron asked Professor Hamblin to research the question so that a definite name could be identified.
After having the historical research department of the library look into the question, it came up with a very unsatisfactory answer. Professor Hamblin was given the information but seemed somewhat reluctant to share it with the Baron.
Finally, the Baron saw that the Professor was holding something back and asked the professor to tell him the story about the name of the lake.
Reluctantly, the Professor said that to the people who lived on one side of the lake it was called Lilliland Lake, and for people who lived on the other side, it was called Castle Lake.
Since the Baron’s castle and Lady Angela’s Alpine Castle were on the same side of the lake very close together, the name of the lake was Castle Lake. Those people on the other side of the lake, since it was hard for them to see the castles, called it Lilliland Lake.
“But, the Baron asked, “Which name is correct?”
The Professor thought for a while and slowly answered that both names were correct.
It was then pointed out that Lady Angela’s Castle, known as Alpine Castle after the Alpine Mountains around it, was originally called the Rosett Castle after her ancestors. But when it was learned that Rosett was not their real name, the name was changed to Alpine Castle.
The Baron decided that since the lake was so large, it could have two names – Lilliland Castle and Castle Lake.
