aron's Wardrobe
|
ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
Lady Angela resided in her castle known as Alpine Castle, which was a few minutes walk from the Baron’s castle. Lady Angela was the Baron’s fiancée.
While seeing each other almost everyday, Lady Angela began to notice some subtle changes in the Baron’s behavior.
First, she noticed that he hired a full-time tailor to replace his part-time tailor. He also put the new tailor to work immediately designing a whole new wardrobe for himself. Lady Angela thought that the Baron’s current wardrobe was quite fine and didn’t need much of a change, if any.
Then she noticed that the Baron would meet her for morning coffee on the patio of Lilliland Castle dressed in one fashion. Then, if they went someplace together, she would have to wait, not while he got a sweater or coat, but he changed all of his clothing. Then, when they returned for lunch he would change again. Finally, for dinner he changed into something else. This was not on a day with a special castle function, but just a plain ordinary day. Lady Angela didn’t know what to think.
Lady Angela asked Professor Hamblin if he, too, noticed anything different about the Baron’s appearance. He said that he did but chose not to say anything about it.
Finally, Lady Angel asked the Baron if he knew what the expression “clotheshorse” meant. The Baron said that it meant that it was a person who was preoccupied with what he or she wore.
Lady Angela said that he was starting to act like a clotheshorse. The Baron thought for a while then said, “I think that you are right. But,” he said to Lady Angela, “your wardrobe could use a little improvement.” That was the wrong thing to say to the woman he loved.
The Baron agreed to tone down his recent obsession with his wardrobe. “Sometimes I get carried away with things and I am very glad that you are here beside me to help me out.”
The Baron now looks, not like a clotheshorse, but a normal statesman.
