ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
Sir Edward agreed to have several discussions with Professor Hamblin about his remarkable success. In exchange Sir Edward could reside in the Lilliland Castle boathouse in the apartment that overlooked Lake Lilliland.
Sir Edward was asked how he managed to live over one hundred years. He replied by eating properly and doing moderate exercise daily. “I eat something close to a vegetarian diet and my exercise is about a half-mile a day walking.
“My wealth was not really inherited. My parents owned a candy store and I sold it to start my loan business. Everyone needs a loan at one time or another. I established a small one-room office with one employee and the rates of my loans were very reasonable. I only lent money to people with a good name.
“My royal title of Sir Edward was bestowed on me by a member of a royal family who needed some money without anyone in his country knowing about it. For that kind deed, I received the title of Sir Edward.
“Something else about my dining. I never eat in a hurry or dine with people who are tense and argumentative in nature. Dinner conversation has to might and non-political.
“In my day-to-day business, manners are important. Interruptions are to be avoided. No one should feel rushed.”
His business and wealth were his first love. He enjoyed the company of women, especially women who were religious.
Sir Edward was asked how he was planning to celebrate his next birthday. He replied by eating an apple, drinking a fine glass of wine and going for a walk along the shores of Lake Lilliland.
The Professor now had the basics of what made the century man tick. The Professor reported his conversations to the Baron. “Sir Edward is a definite eccentric, but by any definition, I, too, am an eccentric.”
The Professor said additionally of Sir Edward that the man seemed to be enjoying his way of life, he had everything he needed, and the smile on his face when he talked about his success spoke for itself.
