eanut Butter and Jelly
|
ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
Many years ago, the Baron, while attending the university, visited a roommate in the United States. The roommate had a younger brother who always ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The young Baron saw how much the younger brother loved the sandwich and he asked if he might try one.
From that day forward the Baron always had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches packed for him when he went on any trip. Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, his fiancée, knew this very well and had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the Baron when his visited her.
His peanut butter was hard to get in Lilliland. It had to be imported from the United States. Lilliland had marvelous jellies so that part of the sandwich was readily available in Lilliland.
But the Baron worried that if the people knew he liked peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that were likely thought of as kid’s food. What would the citizens of Lilliland think of their leader eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?
The Baron’s sandwiches were not a big secret; it just wasn’t mentioned too much.
When the Baron visited Lady Angela on cold winter evenings, the public thought they cuddled by the fireplace to have brandy and fruitcake. In reality, it was hot cocoa and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Professor Hamblin was asked if the Baron’s food preferences would affect his royal image. The Professor said it might and planned to do something about it. The Professor called in all of the hotel and restaurant owners in Lilliland and gave them a sample of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. They were then asked if they would consider offering it on their daily menus. They all agreed to give it a try. Now it turned out that the sandwich became very popular.
The Baron was happy with the Professor’s solution and enjoyed his peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the restaurants for everyone to see.
They all agreed when traveling, why not pack some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, enough for everyone?
