r. Dumpmaster

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

There were two main roads that went directly to Lilliland and one secondary road. If someone entered Lilliland on the secondary road, he passed an ugly dump outside the town. The dump was a disgrace.

One of the Baron’s houseguests commented that everything about Lilliland was so neat and well organized. What happened to the dump?

The Baron said that since no one ever talked about the dump, the topic was lost. “But you are right and you are a good friend for reminding me about the problem.”

The Baron discussed the dump matter with Professor Hamblin. The Professor mentioned that each year the problem of the dump got worse since more junk was piling up. The Professor said that he would to out to the dump and talk to the person in charge.

When the Professor arrived at the dump, he saw a small sheet with a sign that said the “Dumpmaster” office was there. The Dumpmaster title was one he gave himself since no one else seemed interested in the job.

The Dumpmaster said that after the junk piled up too high, he simply burned it. He burned it on days that were not too windy so that the forest did not catch fire.

When the Professor reported this information back to the Baron he said that just burning the junk was a waste of energy. “Suppose we separate the wood junk from the paper junk. Suppose we separate the metal junk from the glass junk. Now suppose we grind the wood junk and paper junk and compact it into logs for fireplace burning and give it to the citizens free, just for the asking. Instead of wasting the junk it could become a source of heat.

“Since the metal would be separated, it could be melted down for other uses that require metal. Glass, I’m not sure about, but it could go somewhere.”

The Baron said he remembered the old slogan, “Waste Not, Want Not.”

Everyone like the solution and the Dumpmaster was given that title officially.
