angerous Sally

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

A close friend of lady Angela’s spoke with her about a cousin named Sally. Sally was young and beautiful. All of the eligible men of Lilliland dated her once. Once was enough they said because she would accidentally keep hurting herself. She could not walk through a doorway without hitting the door with her head or shoulder. She could not slice a piece of bread without cutting her finger. She almost drowned in the lake several times because she said that she forgot how to swim.

Lady Angela asked Professor Hamblin what to do for Sally. The Professor called three doctors to examine Sally. They all said the same thing, that they could find nothing wrong with Sally.

Finally, the Professor called in a psychologist who had several sessions with Sally. His findings were that Sally was suffering from a case of mental distraction. In the middle of doing something, she would become so distracted that she would forget what she was doing.

The proposed treatment and cure were relatively simple. Sally would train herself to stay focused on one task at a time, before wandering off in another direction.

The proposed treatment was difficult for Sally at first, but as time went on, week-after-week, she noticed an improvement.

It worked because she would decide what she was going to do and stay on the topic or subject until the task was finished. Sally equated the solution with that of a clown juggler with too many balls in the air at the same time. When one ball fell it seemed that they all fell. Soon she was like that same clown with only one ball in the air at one time.

The Professor concluded his discussion with Lady Angela by saying, “Decide what you want to do and then stay focused on it until it is completed. One thing at a time is the answer.”
