hostly Mary
|
ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.
Lady Angela of Alpine Castle invited cousin Lady Kathleen Foxworth’s husband died in a Swiss skiing accident and stayed with Lady Angela during her year of mourning. Then, more back luck befell Lady Kathy with a very serious sailboat accident on Castle Lake. After the boating accident, she developed amnesia and was found in a nearby hospital in Switzerland.
Another member of the royal family, Lord Andrew from Scotland, was visiting the Baron recovering from a shoulder separation he incurred during a hot air balloon accident.
Both Lady Kathy and Lord Andrew met and soon became very close friends. They would go for long horse drawn carriage rides and sailing.
Lord Andrew regularly contacted his staff at his home in Scotland for the latest news, especially since a mysterious event had been occurring all too regularly at his castle. A ghostly figure in white lace who called herself Mary, kept appearing claiming to be married to Lord Andrew and if any other woman were to show up at the Scottish castle, she would be threatened with great harm. Lord Andrew did not want to discuss this strange situation with Lady Kathy for the time being.
However, he knew that his shoulder would soon be mended and he would be returning to Scotland. He would have liked to invite Lady Kathy to come for a visit and stay the summer. But with this ghostly problem, he decided against it.
Lord Andrew consulted with the Baron and Professor Hamblin, the Baron’s chief advisor, as to what he might do about this ghostly woman. The Professor suggested that a British detective he knew in London should be brought into the case.
The British detective was invited to go to the castle in Scotland pretending to be a friend of the Baron’s and Lord Andrew. Ghostly Mary did appear and the detective found out what was going on. The detective solved the case and sent his report to Professor Hamblin.
The Baron and the Professor shared the information with Lord Andrew. It seemed that three unscrupulous businessmen in Scotland wanted Lord Andrew not to marry and produce any heirs to the castle. Without an heir the castle could then be sold at public auction. The three men wanted to purchase the castle and replace it with a racetrack. The ghost was a complete hoax and Andrew was relieved.
Lady Kathy was invited several times to visit Lord Andrew in Scotland without any more fear of ghosts. The following spring, a marriage between Lord Andrew and Lady Kathy took place.
