ain, Mud and Money

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Lilliland has an economy largely based on tourists who come to Lilliland to enjoy skiing, ice skating, horseback riding, hiking and a variety of other outdoor activities.

However, if Mother Nature did not provide crisp clean snow and crystal clear ice and beautiful foliage and mud free bridal paths, then people would cancel their travel plans. Well, that was just what had happened with plenty of rain and mud everywhere. No snow for skiing and no ice for skating. Hotel room vacancies were everywhere and restaurants had few customers.

The tourist business leaders asked the Baron for assistance in this problem. The Baron spoke with Professor Hamblin for his advice in this matter.

After a few days the Professor said to the Baron,” You cannot go up against Mother Nature and it is best to plan for such events.” He suggested that a theater group should be established and eight medium-sized theaters be built for afternoon and evening plays. Musical concerts could also be added in addition to dinner theater productions. Even if the weather turned unfavorable for guests, there would be plenty of indoor activities to make their stay in Lilliland very enjoyable.

Then, when Mother Nature did not provide fresh snow or crystal ice, the guests who enjoyed skiing and ice-skating would still have a popular alternative. One of the theaters could have productions that have audience participation within the play offering small acting parts along with the professional players.

The Professor’s plan worked and the tourist season became very popular all year-round and the Lilliland economy is better than ever.
