ountain Bell Tower Mystery

ome time ago Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small country near Switzerland known as Lilliland.

Hikers in the mountains of Lilliland often heard a bell ringing which warned travelers of foul weather approaching, or an avalanche.

The Baron asked his chief advisor, Professor Hamblin, to investigate the bell sounds in the mountains, of unknown origin.

The mountain rangers said that at one time, many years ago, there was a stone tower with a bell and whenever the weather was becoming too dangerous for hiking the bell would toll. But over fifty years ago, the bell tower fell over and was never replaced. A new tower located at the top of the mountain warned the hikers of approaching dangerous mountain weather. The mountaintop was a more advantageous place to see the entire mountain.

But still reports came from the earlier mysterious bell tower.

Professor Hamblin finally decided to see for himself why the bell seemed to still be ringing when the bell was taken away earlier and the tower was just a pile of rocks.

After a few days in the mountain in the area of the bell tower’s remains, the Professor heard the sounds of the bell.

The sounds of the bell were not really of a bell but the wind coming from the north, passing through the pine forest. The sound was amplified through a hollow tree stump and the loose pile of rocks from the original tower would occasionally shift. All these factors made the combined sound of the mysterious bell.

When the Professor shared his findings with the Baron and his fiancée, Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, they were relieved. Most strange sounds and occurrences can be explained as coming from a combination of natural causes.

The Professor quickly added in a humorous note, that it is sometimes fun to have things happen in order to keep people on their toes.
