anterbury Visit

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

The Baron and his fiancée, Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, enjoyed their travels. Some of the travels were for state business and others were for a holiday.

When they traveled to England to visit some of Lady Angela’s relatives in Scotland, they did spend some time in London. Once in London, they did excursions to places like Brighton, Oxford University, Cambridge University, and Canterbury.

Canterbury is in East Kent in Southeast England. The Baron liked to visit the Canterbury Cathedral with its very beautiful stained glass windows. The Cathedral sits within the City of Canterbury that is surrounded, in part, by surviving Roman walls. It is also near St. Augustine’s Abbey, founded in A.D. 598. Augustine was sent from Rome to bring Christianity to the British Isles.

The Baron, during his university days, liked to study the history of that era, and to be able to stand in places that were mentioned in his textbooks, and the subject of many lectures, was a wonderful experience for him. The Baron hoped that Lady Angela enjoyed the opportunity to stand where such important history took place. The Shrine of Thomas á Becket was well documented in early history at the Canterbury Cathedral.

The many times that the Baron had visited Canterbury to visit the Cathedral, it was always a very busy place for tourists and visitors from all over the world.

On the way back to London, the Baron commented that England was one of the finest places he loved to visit during their vacations. Lady Angela agreed.
