oyal War Museum

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.
When the Baron and Lady Angela of Alpine Castle visited England recently, they spent some time at various museums. One such museum was the Royal War Museum. It had displays of the various wars that involved Great Britain.
Lady Angela wondered why a Baron from a neutral country and who did not believe in war would be interested in a war museum. When she asked the question, the Baron thought for moment and said because it demonstrates how so many young men on both sides must give up their lives to solve a very important problem.
“Wars are started by aggression and miscalculation,” the Baron said from an historical point of view. The machinery of war kills more people and everything escalates. At one time in history people could get in their carriages and go out to watch a war from a safe distance. But now there are no safe distances.
Many of the soldiers have not even reached their 20th birthday and they are asked by their country to pay such a price for the prevention of aggression against them. The opposing side also asks their young men, not even 20, to fight for a cause they really have little concern about.
The Baron came away from the Royal War Museum with a sad heart and a hop that the world will someday solve their problems in other ways besides the destruction of war.
There probably will always be war because of man’s aggressive nature. But his survival on this planet may depend on his ability to become more knowledgeable about the consequences of his behavior.
