ictoria and Albert

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

When the Baron heard his chief advisor, Professor Hamblin, formerly professor at Cambridge University in London, talking about Victoria and Albert, it was not about a married couple. When the names came up too often in the Baron’s weekly conference with the Professor about affairs of state, inside or outside of Lilliland, it was a sign that a trip was in the offing.

Four or five times a year the Baron and Professor Hamblin traveled to London to visit some of the interesting attractions that made London so popular in cultural and artistic circles.

Victoria and Albert is a famous museum. The name “Victoria” was chosen for Queen Victoria, and “Albert” for her consort. It is a very large museum devoted to the decorative arts. The museum has mile after mile of galleries featuring comprehensive collections of fine and applied arts covering many countries, periods, and styles. Fine English furniture, Italian sculptures, glassware, ceramics and many more items of interest from all over the world.

Why the Professor liked to take the Baron and his fiancée, Lady Angela of Alpine Castle to the Victoria and Albert Museum was to give them a clear focus and understanding of where their culture had been and some insights as to where it was going.

The Professor believed that to lead a country, one must become aware of the past. This museum showed the styles of previous generations and different cultures throughout the world.

The Professor’s point of view was that the future of Lilliland was based on learning about the past so as not to make the same mistakes over again.

Even though both the Baron and Lady Angela had completed their university studies, it was still important that they keep on learning about the history of the human condition.

The Baron and Lady Angela were grateful for having Professor Hamblin and his wisdom as an important part of the leadership of Lilliland.
