aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.
The Baron knew well that a successful tourist season meant a healthy economy. Lilliland taxes were very low due to the success of tourists and visitors who spent their vacations in Lilliland.
Having favorable weather was an important factor in the guarantee of happy vacations. But weather was very unpredictable and sometimes it was all really up to Mother Nature.
For vacationing skiers, the snow must be just right on the slopes. Sometimes machine-made snow helped when Mother Nature did not provide enough snow.
If vacationers were coming to Lilliland in the summertime for sailing, then the lake winds had to be just right for the sailboats. Too much or too little wind made sailors unhappy. Without any wind the sailboats would sit motionless on Castle Lake.
It was important that the vacation planners in Lilliland had a selection of alternative activities for the times when the snow did not come, and the wind did not blow, and it rained every day of the entire vacation.
Interesting indoor activities were always available. Theater and shows, shopping, amusements for the family, theme restaurants, storytelling hosts, and many other things.
While no one could guarantee a successful vacation in Lilliland or elsewhere, it was always wise to have interesting alternate activities. “Making certain that the tourists have a happy and memorable vacation in Lilliland is good for everyone,” the Baron maintained.
The Baron and Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, the Baron’s fiancée, often were seen talking with the tourists. Sometimes they had suggestions that the Baron could put to good use in ensuring, when possible, that the visitors enjoyed themselves.
