ady Sara

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

The Baron’s fiancée, Lady Angela of Alpine Castle, lived just three miles away from Lilliland Castle. Alpine Castle had been in Lady Angela’s family for centuries. Lady Angela had a sister, Lady Sara, but the two were not as close as found in many family relationships. Lady Angela always had a nanny and tutor while Sara was left to wander around the castle. When Sara was the proper age, she was sent away to boarding school. Later, it was learned that Sara left the boarding school at age 18 to wander around Europe.

There were times when Lady Angela felt that Lady Sara was not really her sister. She did not know why she had that unusual feeling but it was something she sensed.

Seven years went by without a word from Lady Sara. Then one day she appeared unannounced at Alpine Castle. She looked quite sick. Lady Angela notified the Baron about the arrival of Lady Sara and he sent a physician to her aid.

Lady Angela and the Baron were told the very sad news that Lady Sara was very ill and did not have long to live. Lady Sara had returned to Alpine Castle to tell Lady Angela the true story of her life.

It seems Lady Sara’s mother was not Lady Angela’s mother. Lady Sara’s mother and Lady Angela’s mother were college friends. A Grand Duke had a love affair with Sara’s mother while she was a student at the university. Since the duke was married the child’s birth had to be hidden since she would have been in line as a rightful heir to the Grand Duke's throne. If her whereabouts were known, her life would have been at risk. Therefore, she was hidden at Alpine Castle and even Lady Angela was not informed of her real identity.

Lady Sara later passed away and Lady Angela had her buried in the cemetery reserved just for family members. “Although Lady Sara was not really my sister, I always thought of her with love and respect,” said Lady Angela.
