wordsmanship in Lilliland

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

The Baron took his responsibilities very seriously, especially when it came to the health and safety of the citizens. The Baron's father was the same way as was his father's father down through many generations of the royal family of Lilliland.

That is why the Baron became concerned when reports from the Lilliland Hospital came in that they were treating a lot of young men with sword cuts.

The Baron had the matter investigated and found that there were some secret dueling groups among the young men of Lilliland. Shooting guns, knives and fighting were illegal and not common in Lilliland especially since, like Switzerland, they were a neutral country.

The Baron was informed where in the public park the dueling groups would meet and practice fencing with foils for the honor of their group.

The Baron with his advisors went to one of these secret events and surprised everyone. The Baron put a halt to the dueling. However, the Baron's advisors said that the event was very popular in the Olympics and it was considered a recognized sport among many nations. The Baron hired one of the finest, most highly qualified dueling instructors in Europe, and he set up a free school for all the young people to learn the sport of fencing with all the necessary safety equipment. All of the young men joined the fencing classes and many learned the art of fencing as a sport in the proper manner. They participated openly at the school for fencing and they were not injured, since they used proper safety equipment and methods.

A good time was had by all the participants in Lilliland.
