aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.
Everyone was enjoying the tranquility of the season in Lilliland. But during the past few weeks, more and more building fires were being reported. Normally, there were two or three fires a year in Lilliland due to a faulty fireplace or some other explainable cause. But, as of late, there were one or two fires a month and the cause was very suspicious. The cause was usually the same; a wagon filled with hay caught on fire during the night while parked near a building.
The fire chief of Lilliland reported the strange outbreak of fires to the Baron who immediately summoned his chief advisor, Professor Hamblin. The Professor said he had heard about a secret group of people who did not like the monarchy in Lilliland. They wanted to overthrow the monarch and establish a new type of government.
The Baron, the fire chief, and Professor Hamblin wanted to know if the same group that wanted to overthrow the monarchy was responsible for starting the fires. Professor Hamblin disguised himself as a lonely drifter and was able to find out that a group of a dozen drifters were causing the fires.
The Professor discovered that the group causing the fires was the same group that wanted to overthrow the monarchy. He also overheard the group discussing setting Lady Angela’s Alpine Castle on fire. The Baron informed Lady Angela of the plot and asked her to leave Alpine Castle and he would have the police in disguise inside the castle to catch the fire bombers in action. The plan worked and the group was caught in the act and brought to justice. Lady Angela and her Alpine Castle were safe.
The captured men were not citizens of Lilliland; they were just drifters who were unhappy with their own lot and wanted to disturb the serenity of countryside. The fires stopped and everyone in Lilliland felt safe and secure again.
