scar is Kidnapped

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

The Baron loved to begin each day with a ride on his favorite horse Ridgeway. His fiancée Lady Angela of Alpine Castle would often join him on her favorite horse Daisy. They rode the scenic bridle path along the shores of beautiful Castle Lake.

Upon their return to Lilliland Castle they would have breakfast in the morning room. Everything was usually bright and cheery. The Baron’s dachshund Oscar would be in the morning room patiently awaiting their return and hoping for a nibble or two of the Baron’s breakfast.

When the Baron and Lady Angela returned to the morning room, Oscar was not in his usual spot. His bowl of food had not been touched. The Baron asked where Oscar was. The castle staff looked everywhere but could not locate the little dog. This was not like Oscar because he had always been very reliable.

Finally a mysterious envelope arrived at the castle for the Baron. The envelope contained a message about Oscar. Oscar had been kidnapped and he would not be returned until the Baron paid a ransom. The sum was six pieces of gold.

Professor Hamblin, the Baron’s chief advisor was called in to help decide on a plan of action to save Oscar. While the kidnapping problem was being discussed, Oscar’s best friend, a cat named Missy, was wandering around the morning room obviously looking for Oscar.

Suddenly, Missy stopped looking for Oscar and twitching her ears ran out of the castle toward Castle Lake. The last they saw of Missy was as she was heading toward the boathouse.

Missy ran into the boathouse and spotted Oscar in a small cage locked by a sliding bolt. There were two men guarding the room but they seemed preoccupied with playing cards and did not notice Missy. Since Missy was very good at opening doors and cabinets in the castle, she approached the cage. Very quietly she slid the bolt back so that Oscar could escape. Both little Oscar and Missy ran back to the castle in search of the Baron.

When Oscar and Missy found the Baron everyone was happy. The two kidnappers were later found in the boathouse and captured and sent to jail.

A few days later, the Baron said to Lady Angela that he never realized how much he missed Oscar until he was taken away. Never again would the Baron take Oscar’s affection for granted without acknowledging it with a kind word and a pat on the head.
