ady Angela's Seamstress
|
aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.
The Baron’s fiancée, Lady Angela, lived in Alpine Castle just three miles from Lilliland Castle. Alpine Castle had been in Lady Angela’s family for more than 100 years. It was a charming structure on the edge of magnificent Castle Lake.
During one of their morning horseback riding outings, Lady Angela seemed concerned about her castle. She lived alone except for her staff of seven. On the whole, the building and grounds were kept up beautifully but as is the case with older buildings, something always happens.
Lady Angela expressed concern that the castle tower looked like it was leaning toward Castle Lake. The tower was used only for storage and food supplies, and her seamstress used one of the rooms as a sewing room. Kate made all of Lady Angela’s clothing. The Baron said that he would send his chief advisor Professor Hamblin over to her castle, as well as a structural engineer to evaluate the building. The Professor and the engineer would be at her castle first thing the next morning if that were agreeable with Lady Angela. She approved and seemed relieved.
A severe storm came up suddenly across the lake so the Baron and Lady Angela cut there riding short and returned quickly to the stables at Lilliland Castle. The Baron invited Lady Angela to stay for lunch while the storm passed over. There was severe thunder and lightening over Castle Lake in the direction of Alpine Castle. Lady Angela later received word that the tower of her castle had lost its roof and the top two floors had collapsed into Castle Lake.
Lady Angela and the Baron went immediately to Alpine Castle to see if anyone was hurt. Everyone seemed to be fine except for the seamstress, Kate. Kate was missing. For the next ten days every place was searched and no one could find Kate. She was presumed dead and a funeral was arranged.
Since everyone thought that Kate had no relatives, she would be buried in the Alpine Castle family plot. The funeral service was well attended and there were over 100 mourners present where the grave marker would be set.
But wait! In the crowd was Kate, the seamstress herself. She was alive and well and surprised about it all. Questioned by Lady Angela, Kate told her that she had left a note saying she was leaving for an emergency family matter. Her long lost grandmother had been found in a nursing home in England and she had to leave immediately. It had all been explained in her note in the sewing room in the tower.
The tower was rebuilt and Kate had safely returned and everyone in Lilliland was happy again.
