ncle Charlie's Pet Monkey

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

The Baron's Uncle Charlie would often visit the Lilliland Castle unannounced and uninvited. This visit was no exception. He arrived from his castle in Luxemburg with of all things a pet monkey.

Uncle Charlie arrives now and then to visit all his distant relatives of the Von Lodge royal family. Uncle Charlie is more appropriately known as The Grand Duke Rittenhouse of Luxemburg. The grand Duke Charles, or Uncle Charlie, is somewhat of an eccentric in many ways. He loves the Baron and Lady Angela of Alpine Castle and looks forward to their wedding. In the meantime, his occasional visits keep everything stirred up.

Charlie's pet monkey, named Timmy, was a surprise to the royal family and staff of the Lilliland Castle. They never had a monkey of a nobleman visit the castle without any notice or planning. As a result the monkey was allowed to roam freely around the castle. The monkey first attacked the kitchen, then the stables and then the hen house. The disturbance put everyone at wits end. The monkey would have to leave and Uncle Charlie would have to cut his visit short and leave Lilliland. Everyone was fed up with Timmy the pet monkey.

Just before the Baron decided to speak with Uncle Charlie about the problem with the monkey, the Lilliland town emergency bell tolled. Something very serious has happening in town. There was an emergency.

The Baron and the emergency crew were informed that a very small boy fell down a deep dark well and was nearly unconscious. The rescue workers could hear him occasionally crying and moaning and that was all. The well was in solid rock and the hole was too small for anyone to climb down.

Uncle Charlie said that he would like to help in the rescue with Timmy. He tied a rope to Timmy and gave Timmy another rope to place around the child's waist. Timmy performed very well and the child was saved. Now Timmy was a celebrity in the town and everyone loved Timmy and both he and Uncle Charlie were asked to stay. But Uncle Charlie said that he and Timmy had to get back to his castle in Luxemburg since affairs of state beckoned him home.
