astle Dungeon

aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.

People liked to come to visit Lilliland all year round. Winter offered the famous Alpine Mountain ski trails, summer, the mountain hiking, sailing on Castle Lake and the Baron's favorite activity, horseback riding on the bridal paths. The Baron knew that tourists were an important part of the country's economy and did everything he could to make sure that visitors enjoyed their stay and planned to return again soon. The people of Lilliland were very polite and went out of their way to help visitors enjoy themselves.

Tourists liked to visit Lilliland Castle and its world-renowned gardens. When they toured the castle they enjoyed exploring the sub-cellar that housed the castle dungeon. It seemed all castles were designed and built with a dungeon. When visitors went to the castle dungeon they expected to find whips, chairs and torture racks. But since Lilliland was a politically neutral country, there was never any real need or use for a dungeon. It was just dark and damp unused area of the castle. Since tourists seemed somewhat disappointed after seeing the dungeon the Baron decided to either close if off from the public or have it serve some other purpose.

The Baron asked his fiancée Lady Angela of Alpine Castle what he could do with the dungeon. Lady Angela said that her castle had a few rooms in the sub-cellar that were thought to have been at one time a type of jail. But her father decided to use the area to store wine since it was always at the proper cool temperature. The Baron thought that was a fine solution and he was willing to try it. A famous local wine merchant was in need of some storage space for his large new shipment of Lilliland wine so the Baron decided to offer the space to him for just two considerations.

First, the guests could still come to visit the area where he would store the wines, and they would receive information about the various types of wine produced in Lilliland and second, each of the visitors would receive a complimentary glass of the wine. The merchant agreed and the former castle dungeon was converted to a fine winery.

Everyone appreciated the results thanks to Lady Angela's suggestion.
