he Baron and the Grizzly Bear
|
aron Von Lodge was the head of a small country known as Lilliland near Switzerland. The time was the early 1900s.
The Alpine Mountains in Lilliland had numerous bridle paths and trails for people who loved to go horseback riding. It was a perfect summer day for the Baron to go horseback riding in the mountains. His favorite horse, Ridgeway, was having new horseshoes installed that morning and so the stable hands gave the Baron another horse. It was a beautiful horse named Zee.
The baron, riding Zee, started the morning off in the usual manner. Lady Angela of Alpine castle usually came along, but she was away at that time.
As the Baron proceeded up the mountain trail, there was a sudden, strange noise. The noise startled Zee so much that the Baron was thrown to the ground. As the Baron looked up he saw a large, angry grizzly bear right in front of him. The angry bear was just a few feet away. The Baron was shaken up and did not know what to do. He did not carry a gun since only rescue workers and police were allowed to carry guns in Lilliland. The horse, Zee, ran off leaving the Baron unable to move from where he fell. He could not move without being attacked by the growling grizzly bear.
Zee ran back to the stable. The stable staff, seeing the horse without the rider, became very alarmed. The Baron was missing. Everyone was very excited because Baron Von Lodge, the head of the country, was missing and might be hurt, or worse. A rescue crew was sent to the mountains immediately. Ridgeway, the Baron's favorite horse, was back from the blacksmith's and was ready to go along with the rescue crew.
When the rescue crew finally arrived at the scene, they noticed that the Baron was between the growling mother bear and her cubs. The Baron saw Ridgeway and Ridgeway knew that the Baron needed his help immediately. Ridgeway galloped toward the fallen Baron. The Baron quickly jumped up on Ridgeway and rode safely away from the mother grizzly bear and her young cubs.
The mother bear and her cubs were united and everything turned out very well.
Ridgeway saved the day and the Baron was very happy as they rode down the trail back to Lilliland Castle.
