Introduction to LillilandAll of the stories begin similarly, informing the reader that some time after the turn of the 20th century, Baron Von Lodge was the head of a small European country known as Lilliland.
Now we have the time and place of the adventures of Baron Von Lodge. But we need to know a few more things about the main character. First, he is the rightful heir and baron of a country with a population of 82,000 people in a small country 320 square miles in size.
The Baron is a handsome bachelor who is engaged to his childhood sweetheart, the beautiful Lady Angela of Alpine Castle. Fortunately for the Baron, Alpine Castle is only three miles away, situated on Castle Lake.
The other main character in the stories is Professor Philip Hamblin, formerly of Cambridge University in England. The Baron's father brought the professor to Lilliland to tutor the Baron and Lady Angela in their formal education.
Lilliland is known for its majestic Alpine Mountains and skiing. It is also known for its large Castle Lake and sailing.
Lilliland, like its neighbor Switzerland, is a neutral country.
The pride of Lilliland are the beautiful swans on Castle Lake. The people believe that when the swans are happy the rest of Lilliland is also happy. Everyone really loves the swans.
The Baron has a horse named Ridgeway and Lady Angela has a horse named Daisy. The Baron's dachshund is named Oscar and his cat is Angel.
The Baron lived all his life in Lilliland Castle, which is situated on the shore of Castle Lake.
The Baron was born in 1889, Lady Angela in 1891, and Professor Hamblin in 1869, but that is our secret.
The Baron and Lady Angela have relatives all over the world and that makes things interesting at times.
Finally, please remember that the Baron is the boss, and he doesn't like guns or war or hunting or anything against nature. The people of Lilliland are very fond of the Baron and the Baron really likes the people of Lilliland.
And now, the adventures begin...
